Diabetes and blood vessel health study

Volunteers aged 50 - 75 years are invited to participate in a study conducted by Southern Health Diabetes Services and Research Unit looking at the blood vessel health of those with type 2 diabetes as compared to those without diabetes.

You are suitable whether you are of normal health, have a family history of type 2 diabetes or already have diagnosed type 2 diabetes.

Your participation will take about 4 hours over 2 consecutive days involving:

  • Ultrasound based assessment of blood vessel health
  • Blood tests (including fasting sugar and cholesterol)
  • Blood pressure monitor worn overnight, and
  • A small skin biopsy of the buttock, to examine directly the health and function of the small blood vessels compared to the other tests.
