Relationship patterns in women who overeat: A qualitative study

Published: 5 March 2008

Women aged between 18 and 50 years, who overeat at least once a week, are invited to participate in a Master of Psychology research project investigating the relationship histories of women who experience difficulty regulating their eating.

To participate in the study you must answer “yes” to each of the following questions:

  • I have at least one sibling
  • My parents are not divorced or separated
  • I have never been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder
  • At least once a week I eat much more than I think most people would eat in a similar period of time under similar circumstances
  • When I overeat, I feel a lack of control over my eating
  • I do not engage in purging (vomiting or use of laxatives), fasting or excessive exercise to control my weight

The aim of this study is to increase understanding of women who regularly experience difficulty regulating their eating. Participation involves an interview in which you will be asked questions about your family, peer and romantic relationships. The interview should take approximately 60 minutes to complete.

If you are willing to participate or you are interested in finding out more about this study please contact Helen Fletcher via email at hffle1@student.monash.edu.au or on 0408 059 219.

Participants will receive a $15.00 Coles/Myer Voucher for participating in the study.
