Conflict in Translation

Award-winning war correspondent Jon Stephenson and his French translator Marc Orlando will discuss the role of translation and interpreting in the reporting of news, particularly news related to international conflict and war Tuesday 11 March at 6pm the Alliance Française, Eildon Mansion, 51 Grey St, St Kilda.

Jon Stephenson, winner of the prestigious international Prix Bayeux-Calvados des correspondants de guerre (Bayeux-Calvados Award for War Correspondents) in 2006, has reported on the 2001 war in Afghanistan, the 2003 Anglo-US invasion of Iraq and the 2006 war in Lebanon.

Monash University's Marc Orlando won the 2007 AUSIT National Award for Excellence in Translating for his translation of Jon Stephenson's prize-winning article.

This is a free event. There will be an opportunity for discussion after the presentations.
