The Monash University Animal Welfare Committee would like to inform staff about the upcoming 2005 Bureau of Animal Welfare Annual Scientific Procedures seminar.

Putting the 3 'R's under the microscope'

This is a free seminar. Parking and lunch will be provided.

Notice of Preparation of Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Amendment) Regulations 2005

The primary objective of the proposed regulations is to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulations 1997 to -

(a) Prescribe an additional code of practice as licence conditions, namely the Code of Practice for the Housing and Care of Laboratory Mice, Rats, Guinea Pigs and Rabbits;

(b) Substitute the seventh edition for the sixth edition in the definition of the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes;

(c) Amend record-keeping requirements, licence application requirements and the regulation of certain scientific procedures.

Copies of the RIS and the proposed regulations are available at http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/ris.

Public comments are invited on the RIS and the accompanying Regulations.
