Women wanted for ovarian health study

14 September 2005

Healthy Victorian women, who are five years past their last menstrual period, are needed for a national study of ovarian health.

The study will set the parameters for a health program to be available to postmenopausal women to check their ovaries, in the same way that pap screens and mammograms are available to women to have their cervix or breasts checked.

Women who qualify for the study will undergo a blood test and have a highly sensitive gynaecological ultrasound test of their ovaries. A repeat consultation will be offered to those with an abnormal test.

The study is a collaboration between Monash, the National Australia Bank Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, Prince Henry's Institute and the Jean Hailes Foundation.

It is funded by the National Australia Bank Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, Diagnostic Systems Laboratories Inc and Inhibin Pty Ltd.
