Faculty of Law Seminars14 September 2005 a) 'Rape with Mitigating Circumstances', presented by Dr Greg Taylor, Monash Law When: Tuesday 13 September, 1 pm Monash staff and students only. This talk will be a short history of the special verdict of rape with mitigating circumstances which existed by statute in Victoria from 1891 to 1981. b) 'Clashing Professions: The Contrast between Legal and Medical Malpractice Actions in the United States', presented by Professor Joseph Little, University of Florida When: Tuesday 20 September, 1 pm The past three decades have seen a fierce struggle between the medical profession and some portions of the legal profession in the US over what to do about medical malpractice actions. If you are interested in the funny things we do in the US, ie lawyer-client contracts with contingency fee agreements and making fundamental law by plebiscite, and wish to see some colourful but not-too-fancy charts depicting the progressive growth of malpractice actions and other phenomena, then this talk may prove to be a not-too painful lunch time diversion for half an hour or so of your time.
