'Keeping all the bastards honest: Public accountability in the contract state', by Professor Graeme Hodge, Monash Law New forms of public sector management such as contracting have changed the face of government service delivery in Australia over the past decade. Indeed, the trend to 'contractualise' was meant to provide citizens with better services and strengthened accountability. But has this happened? This seminar investigates the notion of 'public accountability', and outlines work being undertaken through an Australian Research Council Linkage Project with the Auditor General of Australia into how accountability has been affected by contracting and how current practices may be improved.
