Biomedical Engineering Balance System Diagnostic study

The Monash University Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering Department is seeking volunteers to form a control population by participating in a 2 hour study to investigate a diagnostic test to determine balance disorders.

The test will involve:

1. An EEG recording (surface electrodes on forehead) [about 15 minutes of actual recording time]

2. An EVG recording (a soft cotton bud like electrode placed in the ear canal) [about 7 minutes of actual recording time]

Participants must be:

  • Male
  • Aged 18-50
  • No history of psychiatric or neurological illness
  • Right handed
  • No history of substance abuse
  • No use of stimulants such as caffeine or nicotine 12 hours prior to testing.
  • No medication used 12 hours prior to testing
  • No current middle ear infections, auditory pathologies, Meniere's disease, history of grommets, current colds or flu.

You will be paid an honorarium of $30 at completion of the study.
