Faculty of Education seminars3 August 2005 'Repositioning the Elwyn Morey Centre: Applied research and teaching in early intervention in early childhood', presented by Professor Dennis Moore, Ms Di Chandler, and Ms Rosalind Patterson, Faculty of Education. When: Wednesday 3 August, 1 - 2 pm The Elwyn Morey Centre has a well established record as an early childhood early intervention centre with a particular focus on family-centred programming. Until recently, relatively little systematic research has been undertaken through the centre and in more recent years, the staff and facilities of the centre have been under-used in our teaching and professional practice programs in the Education Faculty. Further, our capacity to engage with other early childhood centres regarding the effective inclusion of children attending the Elwyn Morey will be advanced by the addition of the new inclusive kindergarten program in the centre which will provide an opportunity for staff to demonstrate inclusive practice. In this seminar we will be outlining current developments in research, teaching, and professional support for parents and other early childhood centres within the Elwyn Morey Centre. 'Novice and experienced mathematics teachers: Work and stress', presented by Dr Helen Forgasz, Faculty of Education. When: Wednesday 10 August, 1 - 2 pm In a recently completed Monash Small Grant study, the lives of a group of Victorian secondary mathematics teachers, including novice and experienced teachers, were tracked for a week using the Experience Sampling Method [ESM]. This approach enables data to be gathered in real time on the activities in which participants engage and their reactions to them. It was found that teachers' work extended well beyond school working hours. Differences were also found among experienced and novice teachers. Findings from this study will be presented and discussed in the seminar. Further information is available at www.education.monash.edu.au/research/news/seminars/. |
