Castan Centre for Human Rights Law lecture27 July 2005 'Under Siege: Human rights and the rule of law in Zimbabwe', by Mr David Coltart, Shadow Minister for Justice, Zimbabwe. When: Wednesday 27 July, 1 - 2 pm David Coltart was elected to the Zimbabwean Parliament by a massive majority in June 2000 as a member of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and has held the post of Shadow Justice Minister since that time. He is also chair of the MDC's Legal Committee. A lawyer by trade, Mr Coltart has spent his entire career representing human rights causes in his country, and he is the chairperson of the Bulawayo Legal Projects Centre, which he founded in 1987. During his career, he has tirelessly documented the massive human rights abuses perpetrated by the Mugabe Government in Zimbabwe, represented numerous indigent Zimbabweans in court cases, and travelled regularly overseas to publicise human rights violations in his country.
