Three outstanding Monash students have been awarded international scholarships in the 2010 Prime Minister's Australia Asia Endeavour Awards.
The awards provide students with a unique opportunity to undertake international study and research related to their degree, as well as gain international work experience through an internship or work placement.
The awards were open to Australian undergraduates and postgraduates in any field of study with 20 postgraduate and 20 undergraduate awards available.
Faculty of Art and Design PhD student Danielle Wilde will complete an internship in Tokyo, Japan where she plans to develop and explore her light arrays project in collaboration with researchers at the Ishikawa Komura Laboratory and the University of the Arts, Berlin.
Monash Asia Institute PhD student Harman Kullar will complete an internship in India, China and Hong Kong, developing her current research on the effectiveness of India's Education for All program, which aims to improve female education in rural areas.
Bachelor of Arts undergraduate student and Dean's Scholar Lance Truong will conduct a comparative analysis of Australian and Japanese media coverage of the whaling issue, as well as the broader area of international relations between the two countries.
Monash Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Adam Shoemaker said the awards were recognition of the students' commitment to their studies.
"The awards provide our students with a unique opportunity to not only collaborate with other leading institutions but to contextualise their research in an international setting," Professor Shoemaker said.
