Other people's pictures
Monash University Museum of Art's current exhibition, Photographer Unknown, includes works by eight artists who have incorporated found and or anonymous photographs and film footage into their work.
Through their engagement with found photographs and film footage the artists enact a series of reversals, reprisals and re-workings. By placing these works into an art museum context the snapshot is brought to the status of the fine art print.
The exhibition, open until 28 November, features three works by artist-collector Patrick Pound who collects vast amounts of vernacular photography.

Collaboration builds water expertise
Monash has partnered with the International WaterCentre (IWC) and 13 organisations from government, education, research and the private sector to launch the Knowledge Hub for Healthy Rivers and Aquatic Ecosystems.
The hub will connect people and organisations concerned about creating healthy rivers and aquatic ecosystems and contribute water expertise to help improve the health of rivers and aquatic ecosystems in Australia and the Asia-Pacific.
The Queensland-based International WaterCentre (IWC) is a joint venture between Monash, The University of Queensland, Griffith University and The University of Western Australia, undertaking education and training, applied research and expert services to promote whole-of-water cycle approaches to water management.
It is the first Australian organisation to host one of the 17 Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) knowledge hubs.
French internship scheme launched
Monash has signed an agreement to enable students to participate in a French Australian internship scheme.
The internship will provide Australian university students studying in an engineering or business-related field the opportunity to gain international experience in France.
Under the scheme Monash students will undertake a six or 12-month internship in a French company with operations in Australia. Half the internship will take place in its Australian office, and the other half in France at either company headquarters or a branch location.
Conditions and application information for the scheme are available from the French Embassy website.
Award for safer community program
The Monash Safer Community Program has won the 2009 Attorney-General's Australian Safer Community Award in the category of education for Victoria. The program is the University's response to the need to ensure a safe campus environment.
The award recognises organisations and individuals that help to build safer communities across Australia and covers all aspects of community safety, risk assessment, research, education, training, information and knowledge management, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
As a state winner the Monash program will compete in the national awards in Canberra on 4 December.
In response to growing interest in the work being done at Monash by the Australian tertiary sector, the University will host the 'Working together for a safer community national symposium' on 24 November. This event will bring together international and local experts in the fields of public safety, threat assessment, problem behaviours, and law, as well as forensic and clinical psychology.
