Narration: Looking at these happy children you wouldn't think that they are all going to hospital. Fortunately it's not them but their teddy bears that need the attention in a specially designed hospital at Monash University's Gippsland Campus. Medical students there have started a project to help youngsters overcome their fear of visiting doctors and hospitals.

Chris Brown: "If children go to hospital for reasons other than own health it's to visit a sick relative. It's a bit of a negative feeling if their aunty or grandma is not very well and is in this place and they are a bit concerned or frightened for him or her. So part of the exercise is to get children a bit more relaxed about going into health spaces, hospitals, clinics and seeing them as non-threatening."

Narration: With help from pupils at Morwell Park Primary School, the Monash students are setting out to change children's perceptions by helping them understand what happens behind the scenes in medical settings.

Student nurse: "So Surgeon Sarah is going to give you your own pair of tweezers to help take out what's making teddy feel bad."

Narration: The hospital includes 10 different stations that the children and teddies move through. These stations range from applying a plaster, learning about nutrition and exercise and taking someone's blood pressure.

Young girl taking blood pressure: "It's pumping up."

Professor Chris Brown: "Part of the role of being a doctor is to teach about health to the community and the best people to start teaching health to, are in fact children. Children dictate the choices that families make about health."
