Testosterone improves learning and memory

Monash research has found that testosterone treatment improves brain function in healthy postmenopausal women.

Professor Susan Davis and Dr Sonia Davison of the Women's Health Program treated 10 women aged 45 to 60 years for six months with a daily skin spray of testosterone delivered by Testosterone MDTS® (metered dose trans-dermal spray).

Statistics show postmenopausal women suffer dementia and memory loss at twice the rate of men and researchers believe their lower levels of testosterone may be a contributing factor.

The women showed improvements in visual and verbal learning and memory after treatment.

Christine Nixon speaks at management industry forum

Former Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon shared her views on crisis management during the Department of Management's Industry Forum and Research Exhibition, held recently in Melbourne.

The chair of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority is currently overseeing the largest recovery and rebuilding operation Victoria has ever undertaken, working with communities, businesses, charities, local councils and other government departments to help rebuild communities following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.

Her priority is to help communities recover and rebuild in a way that is safe, timely, efficient, cost effective and respectful of each community's different needs.

"Good people skills, communications with all stakeholders, involvement of local leadership and awareness of cultural diversity are some of the most important managerial capabilities in a crisis situation like this," Ms Nixon said.
