Cyclone Nargis disaster relief

8 May 2008

Millions of people are displaced and homeless after Cyclone Nargis devastated Myanmar (Burma) on 2 May.

The extent of the damage is not yet known. However it is reported that the official loss of life is in excess of 20,000 people, with upwards of 40,000 missing and hundreds of thousands displaced.

World Vision is urging Australians to donate funds to the Myanmar Cyclone Appeal to provide emergency relief. World Vision staff on the ground have reacted quickly in distributing much needed emergency supplies including food, shelter, blankets and medical supplies.

World Vision has been working in the country for over thirty years, and is one of very few international aid agencies to be invited to help by the Myanmar Government.

Australians can give to the Myanmar Cyclone Appeal by visiting the World Vision Australia website or calling 13 32 40.
