Bb/Bb Manager - unit code gradebook column

What is it?

The ability to add a new gradebook column containing Monash unit code data to a Blackboard section via Bb Manager.

Who can access

The add gradebook column functionality will be available in Bb Manager to Lecturers, Course Administrators, School/Department Administrators and Faculty Administrators for the sections they are able to manage.

On the section page in Bb Manager.

Steps for adding column

  1. Under the 'Section utilities' heading select 'Add gradebook column'.

How it works

Column name:  a column called Unit code will appear in the section gradebook.

Data:  the 'Unit code' column will be added and populated with unit codes (eg ABC1234).

When to add the column: the column can be added to a section:

  • once a unit is linked and cohorts have been mapped
  • when cohorts have been loaded into Blackboard.

When column is populated: the column is created and populated in Blackboard:

  • Once the students have been loaded.
  • If a cohort is already loaded in Blackboard when the column is added to the section, then the column will be created and populated when the next grade book update script runs as part of the daily upload process.

Data updated: cohort enrolments that are loaded into Blackboard after the grade book column is created will be populated with unit code data after the enrolment is uploaded to Blackboard.

Questions and Answers

What do I do if I accidentally delete the gradebook column?

To retrieve the data the gradebook column must be re-created in Blackboard with the same column name Unit code, then the values will be updated when the next daily upload process runs.

What if the column has already been requested?

If the column has already been requested and an administrator clicks the link to request the column, they will receive a message indicating the column has already been requested/added for the section.

Do I have to add the column every semester/year?

Yes, the addition of the column is only valid for that section instance. If a section with a unit code column is copied across to a new semester the administrator needs to activate the column in Bb Manager for the new section.
