How to access and contribute to a Media Library in Blackboard

Quick guide for students

 The Media Library tool allows you to view a collection of text, image, video, and audio files related to your section.

View a media library collection

View a media library collection

  1. Click on Media Library  in the Course Tools menu.
  2. Click on the Media Library collection that you want to view.
  3. Click the  back button or use the breadcrumb trail (select the Media Library link next to Your location) to return to the listing of all collections.

Note: If Media Library  does not appear in the in the Course Tools menu, click on the Media Library icon  on your section page.

View an entry

  1. Click on Media Library  in the Course Tools menu.
  2. Click on the Media Library collection that you want to view.
  3. Click on the Title of the entry that you want to view.
  4. Click Close this window to return to the collection.

Create a media library entry

  1. Click on Media Library  in the Course Tools menu.
  2. Click on the Media Library collection in which you want to add an entry.
  3. Click on the Create Entry button.
  4. Enter a Title. If you want, select to display the title in italics.
  5. Enter a description for the entry.
  6. If you want to include a file with the entry, such as an image or audio file click Browse and the Content Browser window appears.
  • If you have already uploaded a file to your My Files, select the file and click OK.
  • If you need to upload a file, click on My Computer  which gives you access to all files on your computer, select a file and click Open. The file will automatically be uploaded into My Files and attached.
  1. In the Keywords text box, enter keywords separated by commas if required.
  2. Click Save.
  3. You will be returned to the collection.

Note: You can only create entries for a collection if your lecturer has allowed it.

Edit a media library entry

  1. Click on Media Library  in the Course Tools menu.
  2. Click on the Media Library collection that contains the entry that you want to edit.
  3. Click the ActionLinks  icon next to the Title of the entry that you want to edit.
  4. Click Edit  .
  5. Make any required changes.
  6. Click Save.
  7. You will be returned to the collection.

Note: You can only edit entries that you have created.

Preview a media library entry

  1. Click on Media Library  in the Course Tools menu.
  2. Click on the Media Library collection in which you want to preview an entry.
  3. Click the ActionLinks  icon next to the Title of the entry that you want to preview.
  4. Click Preview  .
  5. Click Close this window to return to the collection.

Remove an entry from a collection

  1. Click on Media Library  in the Course Tools menu.
  2. Click on the Media Library collection from which the entry is to be removed.
  3. Click the ActionLinks  icon next to the Title of the entry that you want to remove.
  4. Click Remove  .
  5. Click OK.
  6. You will be returned to the collection.

Note: You can only remove entries from a collection that you have created. If you remove an entry from a collection, it will still be visible to your lecturer, but students will no longer have access to the entry.
