ITS cost recovery for section data restoreITS are charging on a cost recovery basis for the activity of restoring the data of a section to Blackboard. Why is there a cost? The nature of the Blackboard application requires the entire database to be restored in order to retrieve the ‘lost’ materials for one section. One of the benefits of the (MUSO) Blackboard service is that the management of unit-specific learning materials is able to be devolved to the individual lecturers involved with the teaching of a particular unit. To mitigate the risk of learning objects being unintentionally altered, it is recommended that teaching staff take a back-up of their material before undertaking routine updates. This recommended action is regularly publicised, readily available and takes minutes to action. For information on backing-up your section see Backing up a Section in Blackboard If you have any queries regarding section backups please contact MUSO Support Timeline:The process for restoring the data typically takes between 5 – 7 working days. Cost:The cost recovery fee is $1030 per request for the data of one section to be recovered. The charging of this cost requires authorisation by the appropriate person in your faculty. Scope:ITS is able to restore data for any given day up to 28 days after the date. How to request a data restore:Please contact MUSO Support for further information and assistance. Staff are encouraged to perform their own section backups on a regular basis using the Backup ware provided in Blackboard Manager. This process of a database restore is to be used as a last resort, and we ask that staff are encouraged to not rely upon it as their content backup strategy. |
