Section Restore

Role: Administrator

You can restore a Section from a backup file to recover files, information or student assessments and results for examples. The backup file may be located in your faculty Blackboard Section archives, or locally if you used the Section Backup utility in Blackboard Manager and saved the backup file locally. You will need to have the backup file (.bak) on your computer to upload to and restore in a Course on Blackboard . When the section was backed up, the linked files were copied into the section as part of the backup, but tagged as linked files. This means that the backup contains a copy of all files used in the section at the time of archival. When restoring the section you will be able to choose whether to restore the shared file structure saved in the archive, or the saved files in the archive.

Note: Please consult with your Faculty Administrator and/or MUSO Support prior to restoring a Section.

  1. Change the Restore Section settings as follows:
    1. Use custom settings
    2. Shared file structure options:
Choose the following option that suits you:
Option 1: Restore shared file structure as saved in the backup, if shared file exists

If this option is selected, links to files will be re-established. This means that if the original files have changed since the backup, upon restore, they will be updated. Choose this option to use the latest version of those files as it re-creates the same file structure. However, if the original files have since been deleted, moved or renamed, the links will be broken.
Option 2: Do not restore the shared file structure, restore files saved in the backup
If this option is selected, no existing links will be re-established. The exact contents of all files saved in the backup will be used to restore the section. Choose this option if the original files no longer exist or if the file content is required to remain exactlyas it was when the section was backed up.
    3. Settings options: Restore settings as is
    4. User options: Deny access to all users in backup
    5. Duplicate sections: Do not overwrite existing section. Restore backup as a new section

Rename Section and enrol staff

If the Section is restored in a Course where the original Section exists, the restored Section name will be same as the original with a 1 appended. You might like to rename it to something more meaningful.

Navigate to the Course that the Section was restored in and click on the Action links for the Section . Select the Edit Properties option and rename the Section.
