Creating and editing assignments in Blackboard
Quick guide for Designers
The Assignments tool allows you to create assignments.
Create an assignment

Set the release criteria for an assignment
Create an assignment
- Click on the Build tab.
- Go to the folder, learning module or Home Page where you wish to add the assignment.
- Click on the Add Content Link
button at the top of the window and select Assignments .
- Click on Create Assignment.
- Type in a Title and Description.
- Type in Instructions for the assignment.
- To include additional files, click on the Add Attachments button.
Mac users: Safari is the recommended browser when uploading files.
- Select the Student submission format i.e. Text or Web site, by clicking on the appropriate circle.
- Select the Assignment recipients by clicking on the appropriate circle. If you are unsure, select Decide later.
- Select the Due Date
and Due Time .
- To create a corresponding event in the Calendar, click on the box next to this option.
- Select the Cutoff Date
and Cutoff Time .
- Select the Grading options.
Note: If you want to use a Grading Form, you must create the grading form first before you can attach it to an assignment. Refer to the Grading Forms guides for further information.
- Click on More Options
- If you want students to be able to take back their assignment before the due date has passed, then tick the checkbox
Students can take back and correct work after submission
- To receive email notification when a student has submitted their work, enter your email address in the
Lecturer's e-mail address:
- Click Save.
- To give students access to the assignment, click on the ActionLinks icon
next to the assignment and select Show Item .

Edit an assignment
- Click on the Build tab.
- Click on Assignments
in the Course Tools menu. Alternatively, you can select the assignment from the Course Content drop-down list and skip the next two steps.
- Click on the ActionLinks icon
next to the assignment title.
- Click on Edit Properties
.
- Make your changes.
- Click Save.
Note: It is only possible to edit an assignment which has not yet been released to students.

Delete an assignment
- Click on the Build tab.
- Click on Assignments
in the Course Tools menu.
- Click on the ActionLinks icon
next to the assignment title.
- Click on Delete
.

Set the release criteria for an assignment
- Click on the Build or Teach tab.
- Click on Assignments
in the Course Tools menu.
- Click on the ActionLinks icon
next to the assignment title.
- Click on Set Release Criteria
.
- Set the release criteria. (For further information, refer to the Selective Release guides.)
- Click Save.
