Creating and managing announcements in Blackboard
Quick guide for Lecturers and Tutors
The Announcements tool allows you to create and post important notices for a section.
In Blackboard a Section is a teaching site.
For example "Equity and discrimination in the workplace S1 2008" is the Semester 1 section for the subject "MGX5130 Equity and discrimination in the workplace"

Create an announcement
- Click on the Teach tab.
- Click on Announcements
in the Course Tools menu.
- Click on the Create Announcement button.
- Type in a Title.
- Type in a Message.
- Select the Recipients by clicking on the box next to the appropriate user type (e.g. Student).
- Select the Date
and Time the announcement should start to be displayed. Note: It is a good idea to set this time for a few minutes ahead so you have time to check the announcement and make changes before it is sent.
- To set the announcement to appear for an unlimited time, click on the circle next to this option.
- To set an end date, click on the circle next to this option and select the Date
and Time the announcement should stop being displayed.
- To set the announcement to pop-up when members enter the unit, click on the box next to Also deliver as pop-up message.
- Click Send. The announcement will be sent automatically when the start date and time are reached.
- A status of sent or ready will appear under the announcement title in the main window of the announcements tool.
Note:When Announcements are created in Blackboard, they display in the order they are
created i.e. new Announcements are added to the Bottom of the list.
As it makes more sense for new Announcements to be displayed in reverse order, it
is recommended that Designers change the display order of Announcements. (If you
have Designer access, you may prefer to create Announcements in the Design rather
than the Teach view to improve the process).

Edit an announcement
- Click on the Teach tab.
- Click on Announcements
in the Course Tools menu.
- Click on the ActionLinks icon
next to the announcement title and select Edit .
Note: Only announcements that have not yet been sent can be edited.

Preview an announcement
- Click on the Teach tab.
- Click on Announcements
in the Course Tools menu.
- Click on the ActionLinks icon
next to the announcement title and select Preview .

Delete an announcement
- Click on the Teach tab.
- Click on Announcements
in the Course Tools menu.
- Click on the ActionLinks icon
next to the announcement title and select Delete .
