Creating and managing folders in Blackboard

The Create
Folder tool
allows you to organise unit components into folders.
Create a folder

Create
a folder
- Click on the Build tab.
- Go to the Home Page or folder where you wish to
create the
new folder.
- Click on the Create Folder button
at the top-left of the main window.

- Type a title in the Title field
- If required, type a description of the folder coontents in the Description
field.
The description will show on the page, next to, or under, the Folder icon.
- Click on Show Item or Hide
Item, depending on whether or not you wish students to
see the folder.
- To create additional folders, click on the Add
Another Folder button and repeat steps 4-7.

- Click Save.
Note: Avoid
creating folders inside other folders. In general, a student
should be able to get from your unit home page to any unit content
in no more than two mouse clicks.

Add
headers, footers and content to a folder
- Click on the Build tab.

- Go to the folder to which you wish to add items.
- Click on the ActionLinks
icon
next to the folder title.
- Click Go to Folder.

- To add a header, click on the Page
Options
button at the top-right of the main window.

- Click on Edit Header.

- Click on Enable HTML Creator if
this is not already activated.

- Type or paste the header content.
- If required, click on the box next
to Use this as the default header for the entire course.

- Click Save.
- To edit the footer, repeat steps 3-7, clicking on
Edit Footer instead of Edit Header.

- To add content to the folder, select from the Add
File, Create Folder and Add
Content Link buttons. For further information on adding
the various types of content, refer to the relevant guides (e.g. Adding
and editing files in Blackboard quick guide).

Show/hide
folders
- Click on the Build tab.

- Go to the folder you wish to hide or show.
- Click on the ActionLinks
icon next to the folder title.
- Click on Show Item or Hide
Item as required.

Note: With the Selective
Release tool you can selectively show a folder based on
set date, student, group or grade book criteria. For example, you may
wish to show the folder for only a two-week period, or you may wish
only some students to see the folder. For further information, refer to
the Selective Release guides.

Move
content to a folder
- Click on the Build tab.

- Go to the item you wish to move.
- Click on the ActionLinks
icon next to title of the item you wish to move to a folder.
- Click on Move to Folder.

- In the new window that appears, click on the name of
the
folder to which you wish to move the item.

- The item will now appear in the selected folder.

Delete
a folder
- Click on the Build tab.

- Go to the folder you wish to delete.
- Click on the ActionLinks
icon
next to the folder title.
- Click on Delete.

- Confirm that you wish to delete the folder by
clicking OK.
Note:
If you attempt to delete a folder that contains content, you will be
warned that all links inside the folder will also be deleted.
