Release notes Blackboard service pack 4.2.3

The following issues will be corrected following the implementation of Service pack 3.

Announcements

  • After creating an Announcement without a Start Date, when attempting to Send the Announcement, the expected warning message displays, instead of the unexpected system exception that was being generated.

Assessments

  • When creating Fill-in-the-Blank questions using the HTML editor, if a special character was placed between the [ ] brackets for a Blank, the character is now translated literally when the answers are generated.

  • When attempting an Assessment Quiz, the user is required to submit answers to all questions before selecting Save All Questions.
This occurred for most Question types except Multiple Choice, Combination, and True/False question types.

  • In Edit Assessment Properties, when the Attempts Separated field is left empty, an error/warning message is now displayed.

  • If a user goes to the Grade Book and toggled the "Released to Student" setting to 'Yes,' under the assessment properties, the assessment was supposed to set to "Release the score once the assessment has been submitted and all of the questions have been graded" but this did not happen. Instead only the score was released to the 'My Grades' tool. This has been corrected.

Assignments

  • When attempting to submit an assignment, a Student is now wable to attach a file that contains an ampersand (&) in the filename, previously an error occurred and the file could not be attached.

  • When attempting to access the Assignment Dropbox, removing a Group assignment no longer causes an exception error.

Discussions

  • Students are now able to peer review each individual threaded message.

  • If a  Discussion Topic is marked as Hidden and is linked on the homepage, the homepage now indicates that the Topic has been Hidden.

Learning Modules

  • Indentation on hidden items now displays correctly.

Presentation Settings

  • The Student View no longer shows details that are unavailable to Students, such as selective release items that are not yet available.
As well, designers no longer see exception errors when looking at the Student View. For example, a system exception error occurred when entering the Student View tab from Designer or Instructor access. This occurred in all Sections whose Section Start date had not been reached, and when the Course availability was set to “Not available before the section start/after section ends.” This issue did not affect actual student interactions with the Course, only the Student View that a Designer or Instructor could see.
