Richard Lewer: Nobody Likes a Show Off
Monash University Museum of Art, Clayton campus Marked by a sceptical humour and a focus upon the darker sides of human behaviour, place and social identity, Richard Lewer’s work involves subjective encounters with family, sport, religious and criminal subjects, leading to insightful and absurd narrative reflections on good and evil, life and mortality. Continuing MUMA’s ongoing series of survey exhibitions by significant artists at mid-career, Richard Lewer: Nobody Likes a Show Off focuses upon a decade of work, from the artist’s early animations and performance to the ambitious series of drawings, paintings and installations of recent years.
