The Persistence of POP

22 February - 24 April 1999

The Persistence of POP looks at Pop art in Australia from the sixties to the present exploring Pop's legacy as a living presence in art that is abstract, political and humorous. The artists represented in the exhibition are individual and local in their selection and manipulation of Pop ideas; knowingly employing recognisable and familiar subject matter and approaching it with celebration, criticism and humour.

Artists included are: Howard Arkley, Mike Brown, Denis Chapman, Isabel Davies, Mikala Dwyer, Jeff Gibson, Matthew Jones, Maria Kozic, Christopher Langton, Richard Larter, Callum Morton, Patricia Piccinini, Robert Rooney, David Rosetzky, Gary Wilson and Constanze Zikos. Curated by Zara Stanhope. This exhibition has received development assistance from NET Victoria's Exhibition Development Fund Grant, supported by the Community Support Fund through Arts Victoria and the VACF of the Australia Council.
