Through our Education and Public Programs Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA) aims to make its exhibition program and collection accessible and interesting to a wide range of audiences, including schools, tertiary and community groups and the general public. MUMA are committed to promoting youth access to and understanding of contemporary art and warmly welcome school and educational group visits to the Museum.

MUMA offer a wide range of education and public programs designed to engage audiences and encourage new ways of looking at contemporary art and thinking about the world. The exhibition program presents a changing calendar of exhibitions intended to motivate and interest students of all levels, while the Monash University Collection provides a rich introduction to Australian contemporary art.

School Education talks are tailored to the Victorian Education Learning Standards (VELS) in The Arts and key learning outcomes for VCE Art and Studio Arts. Talks will engage students in discussion of ideas about art production; artistic inspiration and techniques; responding to art (art analysis and interpretation); professional art practice and industry contexts; display and presentation issues, and the role of the artist and the gallery in contemporary culture.

Our Education and Public Program is developed to compliment MUMA exhibitions and the Monash University Collection and includes:

  • Free admission to exhibitions
  • Artist and curator floor talks
  • Exhibition tours and talks by the education officer
  • Symposia addressing key issues and ideas in contemporary culture
  • Teacher and student professional development programs
  • Catalogues, artists' files and exhibition support materials
  • Education kits and teaching resources
