MUMA welcomes visits from community groups or student groups at university, TAFE and secondary school level. Visits are tailored to suit each group’s particular interests and can also respond to the Victorian Education Learning Standards (VELS) in the Arts or key learning outcomes for VCE Art and Studio Arts.

MUMA education services include:

  • free exhibition entry and participation in museum-based artist, curatorial, exhibition and education talks;
  • professional development programs including teacher briefings, symposiums and seminars about recent developments in contemporary art practice;
  • MUMA podcasts and videos including artist and curator interviews, floor talks and forums about current exhibitions;
  • education resources, catalogues and interpretive materials to complement museum-based and classroom teaching activities.

Student-focused programs cover such topics as artistic inspiration; media and techniques; art production; exploring and responding to art (analysis and interpretation); art in professional and industry contexts; display and presentation issues; and the role of the artist and the art museum in contemporary culture.
The Helen Macpherson Smith Education Space at MUMA can accommodate classes and community group visits.
