Max Delany is Director, Monash University Museum of Art since 2004, and has most recently overseen the relocation of the museum to new architecturally-designed facilities on the university’s Caulfield campus. He was previously Director, Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces from 1999-2004, and Curator at Heide Museum of Modern Art from 1995-1999.
For almost two decades Max has been involved with the development of contemporary art and the presentation of exhibitions, publications, cultural exchange and public projects for museums and contemporary art spaces at a national and international level. Max is an editorial advisor to Art & Australia, an occasional contributor to Frieze; a board member of Satellite Projects Inc.; and has held posts as Secretary of Contemporary Art Organisations Australia (CAOs); board member of the Public Galleries Association of Victoria Inc., and member of Asialink’s Strategic Ties for the Arts – Japan Advisory Committee; as well as a member of various Arts Victoria advisory panels.
With oversight of MUMA’s Artistic Program since 2004, recent curatorial projects include Change, the inaugural exhibition launching MUMA’s new premises; Diena Georgetti: The Humanity of Abstract Painting 1988-2008; Angela Brennan: Every morning I wake up on the wrong side of capitalism; David Noonan: Films and Paintings 2001-2005; Pavilions for New Architecture; and Pitch Your Own Tent: Art Projects | Store 5 | 1st Floor.
