MUARC simulator upgrade
MUARC is planning to upgrade the current laboratory which will position Australia to lead simulation research into the future. When completed, the laboratory will comprise a state-of-the-art control room, motor vehicle driving simulators – one high fidelity simulator, a lower fidelity portable simulator, a motorcycle simulator and PC-based simulators.
The upgraded laboratory will be the largest and most sophisticated in the southern hemisphere. It will provide a platform to expand collaboration between MUARC and researchers around the world, and deliver the capacity to further engage with industry.
Transport safety will remain a key focus however the laboratory will provide an exciting opportunity to develop research programs in areas such as aviation safety and workplace safety (mobile machinery).
The upgraded facility will open up new areas of research through the use of roll-in roll-out vehicles. The cutting-edge technology will provide significant advances for practical applications (e.g., in-vehicle systems) and will provide vehicle, behavioural, physiological and eye-movement data to underpin further theoretical developments and hypothesis testing, thereby keeping MUARC at the forefront of driving simulation research.
