MUARC simulator research team
The chief investigators form an impressive team in the area of vehicle simulation. They lead cutting-edge research using contemporary human factors methods to examine the role of human error in transportation accidents and incidents. Four chief investigators hold a PhD in Psychology and one in Injury Epidemiology, providing them with an excellent disciplinary and methodological framework with which to carry out simulation research. Between them they have built a high-level simulator program, which is at the forefront of international simulation research.
Research capability and technical expertise
The MUARC simulator research team not only has demonstrated capacity to use the simulation laboratory, it also has a track record in the management and development of simulation facilities. The team work with well established policies and procedures for simulator use and maintenance which are monitored and developed by the Instrumented Vehicle and Simulator Management Committee - chaired by the Director, Professor Rod McClure.
Further, the facility is maintained and operated by highly skilled technical staff with electrical and software engineering backgrounds to ensure the facility remains at the forefront of simulation research. Unlike many other simulation centres in the northern hemisphere, MUARC continues to develop and utilise in-house expertise. Given the increasing interest in our research program and environment, where a wide range of studies are frequently undertaken, maintaining our ability to tailor virtual scenarios and experimental data collection to the exact requirements of a particular study is immensely valuable.
