Dr Michael Lenné

Dr Michael Lenné manages the Human Factors and Simulation Group at MUARC. Dr Lenné has over 12 years experience conducting human factors and simulation research in the road safety and military aviation and maritime environments.
Before returning to MUARC in 2003, Michael spent two years at the Defence Science and Technology Organisation developing a simulation-based team training capability for F/A-18 aircrew and naval warfare teams. His technical expertise at MUARC includes the domains of human error and impairment.
In the previous three years he has helped secure over $3M in research funding with 95% being contract funds. He has published over 20 refereed journal papers in the areas of human factors and safety. Specifically 8 journal papers and 18 conference papers report on findings from simulator-based research in road and military naval and aviation environments.
The methodology used in his current work on the role of human error in aviation is also being adapted to a study of the role of human error in road crashes, funded through a national competitive grant. These methods are being applied in a three-year program of research for VicRoads and will use simulation to study the impacts of intersection design on human performance and error. He has demonstrated extensive experience conducting and leading simulation to carry out experimental evaluations of human performance.
