MUARC Video Text
Voice of Director, Professor Rod McClure
"MUARC is the Monash University Accident Research Centre. It's a global research centre with bases in Australia, South Africa, Asia and Europe. MUARC is a scientific research organisation that has taken on the problem of injury. What we do is identify the causes of injury. We establish solutions and we work with government, industry and the community to put those solutions into practice to prevent injuries and save lives. MUARC has raised the profile, raised the importance, of injury prevention. Injury prevention is something we can all do. It needs to be part of all our activities. It needs to be a performance indicator for all systems. MUARC has very clearly stood up as champion for the injury prevention cause. The second thing that MUARC has done is advance the science on which injury prevention is based, and the third thing MUARC has done is to assist government, industry and the community to make a real difference in reducing the injury rates that have occurred in a number of the major areas which account for most of the public health problem of injury. An example of this is road safety, farm safety and the safety of children and older people. MUARC in future is going to continue the work that it's done in the last 20 years to advance the science; continue the work that it's done to take science to practice; and continue to champion the importance of injury prevention as a universal endeavour."
