INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTING APPLICATIONS (MCD1420)

Purpose

This unit is designed to provide learners with an introduction to a comprehensive, integrated suite of office programs, designed to solve a wide array of business needs, using the Microsoft Office suite of computer applications.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit student will be able to:

  1. Understand the principles of a word processing tool and be able to develop Word documents and enhance their appearance.
  2. Understand the principles of a spreadsheet tool and be able to create, modify, format and print Excel worksheets and use formulae and functions to perform calculations and analysis in a worksheet.
  3. Understand the fundamentals of relational databases.
  4. Use Microsoft Access to create, modify and extract data from tables.
  5. Understand the principles of a presentation tool and be able to create, modify and run a PowerPoint presentation with graphics, tables, charts and diagrams.
  6. Understand the principles of integration and be able to integrate components of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Assessment

Assignment: 40%

Examination: 60%
