INTRODUCTION TO MANAGEMENT (MCD1020)

Purpose

This unit is designed to introduce the basic concepts of management that may assist an organisation in achieving its objectives.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

1. Develop a working definition of management.
2. Describe the effects of the internal environment (culture) on management activities.
3. Describe the effects of the external environment on management activities.
4. Describe the importance of International Management in a global world.
5. Develop an understanding of personal and organisational ethics.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between values, morals and culture and
7. Explain the relationship between values, behaviour and decision-making.

Assessment

Assignments: 40%

Final examination: 60%
