IntroductionThe Alexander Theatre, opened in 1967, is named after the great Australian philosopher - Samuel Alexander. The venue gained international recognition when a model and photographs of it were displayed at the opening of the Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in Washington in 1972. The Alexander Theatre is available for public hire and university uses including all types of performances, lectures, conferences and other official functions. The auditorium has a fixed seating capacity of 508. The foyer is served by a fully licensed bar and buffet. The versatility of the venue has attracted many prestigious professional companies, including Melbourne Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company and The Bell Shakespeare Company, and a variety of styles of shows including classical theatre, pantomime, dance, drama, comedy and multimedia. |
