The Cherry Orchard (abridged version) by Anton Chekov Directed by Peter Oyston
This tragic comedy explores Russian society before the revolution. The Cherry Orchard represents the romantic past when the once wealthy family of Lyubov Andreyevna lived a careless life of luxury and non-responsibility. Now they are in debt and have to sell. A wealthy business man Loparkin -- who was once a peasant boy working on the estate -- buys the orchard and immediately chops down the cherry trees to make way for a development of country houses.
Peter Oyston the director has used the Stanislavski system to rehearse this entertaining production. The advantages to your students are that they will be able to discuss the precise processes of the Stanislavski system in rehearsal and our cast will be able to demonstrate how the use of the "methods" create the results in performance.
