Researchers working within the Monash Injury Research Institute have significant experience undertaking suicide prevention projects across a range of settings, mainly in relation to environmental changes to restrict access. 

However, in view of the strong mental health and social components of this issue, we are currently establishing a broader research collaboration across Monash University. This will increase our capacity to properly address the problem.

The Suicide Prevention Research Unit is the subject of a proposal under preparation, and initial collaborative connections have been established. It is expected that this unit will be established in 2012 on the basis of the successful funding applications currently under development.
