Each year our staff produce reports on a broad range of topics across the spectrum of injury prevention.
MIRI offers research students the chance to work alongside world leaders in injury prevention.
Few areas of injury prevention research are as sensitive and difficult to address as those that involve ‘intent to harm'. MIRI researchers have both the experience and the diverse qualifications to make a valued contribution to the field.
Our experts provide independent, evidence-based advice to government and non-government organisations to support the development of improved policy and practice.

Giving children a voice
The Truth is Longer than a Lie, produced by Child Abuse Prevention Research Australia, is the first book in the world to give children's views on abuse. It has received excellent reviews around the world, and has influenced policy makers and legislators in Australia.
This groundbreaking book reveals what young victims have to say about abuse and its effects on their lives. Significantly, it provides important insights into children's perceptions of the professionals who intervened - to protect them, to prosecute the abuser or to provide therapeutic counselling. The authors examine societal factors that increase children's vulnerability, and propose measures for preventing abuse.
CAPRA researchers are hoping to extend this research to include children forced to live with domestic violence, and children with disabilities who have been abused. This research will make a major contribution to policy and practice in these important areas.
