Our research office in Malaysia is forging new partnerships and joint research projects across South-East Asia.
From our base at Monash South Africa we are launching road safety projects that will save lives.
MIRI offers research students the chance to work alongside world leaders in injury prevention.
We began life as a single research centre on Monash University's largest Melbourne campus. Almost a quarter century later, our researchers work across the globe from research centres located in Australia, Europe, South Africa and Malaysia.
This global presence allows our researchers to engage with the world's leading injury prevention scientists, whether they be working in the public sector or private industry. It also helps to promote our own expertise and success on the world stage.
Much of our work is being done in developing countries. More than 90 per cent of all injury deaths, and 98 per cent of child deaths, occur in developing countries. Our researchers are currently completing essential groundwork across several areas and fostering relationships with in-country partners, government agencies and non-government organisations. They are also expanding existing relationships with international agencies such as the WHO, UNICEF and the World Bank.
MIRI Europe
The focus of our activities in Europe - based out of our research office at Monash University's Prato Centre in Italy - has been on establishing and building resources and partnerships. We have agreements in place with a number of safety research centres in Europe, including groups based in the UK, Sweden, Italy, France and The Netherlands.
Led by Professor Brian Fildes, our team has begun several key projects including:
One of the main benefits of having a physical location on continental Europe is that we can work with local communities to help them achieve real social benefits from rigorous scientific research.
