Australia

Australia is the birthplace of injury research at Monash.

Since our foundation in 1987, we have held a prominent place on the grounds of the University's largest campus, Clayton.

The campus, located 20km from Melbourne's CBD, offers a vibrant research, technology and manufacturing precinct. A substantial research community, including the CSIRO and the Australian Synchrotron, surrounds the campus.

As the home of MIRI in Australia, the Clayton campus hosts cutting-edge research equipment, including an advanced on-road instrumented vehicle, a powerful driving simulator - we are the only Australian institute with access to both on-road and simulated driver evaluation technologies - and patient safety education simulation.

However, our influence is not limited to Melbourne.

The Victorian Injury Surveillance Institute (VISU) collects and disseminates invaluable data from 38 hospitals across Victoria, helping shape injury prevention initiatives.

And across Australia our researchers have developed strong bonds with leading organisations, including TAC, the Defence Science and Technology Organisation, Holden, the Australian Football League (AFL), and the Royal Children's Hospital.

We have been a source of information, advice and support for Australia's federal, state and local governments for more than 20 years. In that time we have influenced the Victorian Government's successful ‘arrive alive!' campaign, helped enhance the National Coroners Information System (NCIS), and assisted the WorkCover Authority in developing its media campaign for injury reduction programs.
