MIGR administers doctoral programs and other research degrees to ensure they meet the highest standards. We’re a dedicated service providing professional, world-class support for our research students and the researchers who guide them.

We develop policies to guide research ethics, and supervise the supervisors to ensure our students excel while at university and later in their career.  We also manage postgraduate research scholarships.

Our Industry Engagement and Commercialisation helps Monash researchers share their discoveries with the world. We’ve had global success – take Relenza, the anti-influenza drug developed by a team at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and now used around the world.

Our connections

At Monash, we’re proud to be at the forefront of international and Australian research. We belong to the Group of Eight and the M8 Alliance. We participate in seven Australian Research Centres of Excellence, and partner in 15 Cooperative Research Centres.

All our supervisors are active researchers with experience guiding research students through to completion. We have one of the largest, most diverse groups of supervisors in Australia.

All Monash research supervisors must be members of MIGR and complete our supervisor training program (or equivalent) – which has been cited as both national and international best practice.

External supervisors are encouraged to take on associate MIGR membership. You need to:

  • be active in a research field
  • have guided a candidate through to completion (or complete our supervisor training)
  • maintain a consistently high standard of supervision.

In January 2013 we introduced our new Monash PhD, which offers excellent, multi-disciplinary supervision and gives you the professional skills you’ll need to excel in your chosen field. That’s because we embed tailored career enhancement into the doctorate so you build a range of transferable skills that are desired by employers in industry, academia, government and the community. It's a PhD that will prepare you for a career beyond your degree.
