What a scholarship offers

Apply now

Applying for admission and a scholarship has never been easier using our on-line application form.

We spend more than $47 million each year on postgraduate research scholarships.

It's an investment in the ideas and people behind them that will change the world – and it covers more than the cost of study.

We also offer living and other allowances, travel grants, publication grants, residential scholarships and more.

What is available?

We offer more than 300 stipend (living-allowance) scholarships and 70 international tuition-paying scholarships at our main Monash-wide selection round, which closes on 31 October each year.

A second, annual mid-year round closes on 31 May, when we offer approximately 70 stipend scholarships and 15 international tuition-paying scholarships.

Our stipends and other allowances help with living and other costs, such as establishment costs if you receive certain awards and need to relocate from outside Victoria, including overseas.

If you’re eligible but miss out on a Monash-wide scholarship, you’re automatically considered for a faculty scholarship, which our 10 faculties offer to some of their research degree candidates. These awards could have additional eligibility requirements, which you can ask about when contacting a faculty about your proposed research project.

Our tuition scholarships for international students include the cost of compulsory Overseas Student Health Cover. (Remember, the Research Training Scheme covers research course fees for Australian or New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents.)

Our other awards provide a range of support and include:

  • travel grants – to help meet the cost of travelling to attend conferences, seminars or other events that would benefit your research
  • publication awards – to provide a living allowance for research students whose theses are under examination and need time to write articles or books, based upon their work
  • residential scholarships – especially useful for overseas students or anyone, wanting to live near their place of research.
