Monash Silver Jubilee Postgraduate Research Scholarship (MSJS)/
Sir James McNeil Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarship (SJMcN)
Monash Equity Scholarship (MES)

As with all our scholarship opportunities, eligibility criteria apply.

Monash Indigenous Research Award (MIRA)

Up to two of these awards are offered annually to encourage and support promising Indigenous students to commence a postgraduate research degree on a full-time, on-campus basis.

The award seeks to attract Indigenous students who are eligible to enter directly into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or master’s by research

The scholarship is also available to high-achieving students who may apply for a conjoint honours/research degree program, which involves completing an honours’ year before commencing a postgraduate research degree (such as a PhD, MPhil or master’s by research).

Doctoral-award holders receive an annual stipend, which is paid in fortnightly amounts. If you’re awarded a MIRA as an honours’ student, you receive two equal instalments.

Monash Silver Jubilee Postgraduate Research Scholarship (MSJS)

This special scholarship is offered through a different group of faculties each year. It is available to Australian citizens and permanent residents, New Zealand citizens and international students.

It pays an annual stipend in fortnightly amounts. You may also be eligible for an establishment/relocation, research or thesis allowance.

Sir James McNeil Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarship (SJMcN)

This prestigious scholarship was established in memory of the late Sir James McNeill, who had a long association with Monash University.

It is open to Australian citizens and permanent residents, New Zealand citizens and international students, proposing to undertake a doctorate in music, engineering, science or medicine.

You receive an annual stipend, and could also be eligible for an establishment/relocation, research or thesis allowance.

Monash Equity Scholarship (MES)

This award is offered to research students whose academic career has been adversely affected or who have a disability. It is open to Australian citizens and permanent residents and New Zealand citizens.

Examples of severe academic career interruptions include illness or family responsibilities, such as child rearing, the sustained care of a dependant family member or other family responsibilities.

Examples do not include situations where you have opted to travel or pursue an alternative profession or discipline before returning to study.

The scholarship pays an annual stipend, and you may also be eligible for allowances, such as an establishment/relocation, research or thesis allowance.
