Supervisors

2012 VC’s Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Supervision

Professor Kate Smith-Miles, Head of Monash’s School of Mathematical Sciences, strongly believes that quality supervision can transform bright undergraduates into independent, confident and resilient researchers. Read why.

We understand the importance of supporting our research supervisors to best guide their candidates. It is part of our commitment to research excellence.

At Monash, main supervisors must:

  • be members of the Monash University Institute of Graduate Research, which requires them to be active researchers and abreast with the latest developments in their field

  • undertake a Research Supervisor Accreditation Program, which provides training for supervisors of research candidates to give them the skills to guide their candidates from the formation of an idea to the submission of a thesis.

All supervisors are expected to adhere to our code of practice for supervision of doctoral and research master's degree candidates.
