Graduate Research Program Plans

Our aim is to enrich the researcher as well as their research.

To support this aim, program plans have been developed for a number of Monash University PhD and research master's degrees.

In addition to completing your research degree, you will have the opportunity to develop professional skills that will enhance your research and your career prospects beyond university.

Program plans relate to the coursework and training component of your degree and provide an outline of:

  • coursework units
  • skills training units
  • training activities.

Research skills training units

Research skills training units are broad headings that describe the themes and principles of the training activities contained within each unit. You may have a number of training activities grouped under each of the seven research skills training units:

  • Specialist training
  • Professional skills
  • Responsible research
  • Research practice
  • Project management
  • Academic practice; and
  • Technical training

Training activities

Training activities are the individual sessions, seminars, workshops, etc. that comprise your program plan. Each training activity is grouped under one of the seven research skills training units.

The following faculties offer the new Monash PhD in 2013:

  • Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture
  • Faculty of Arts (including research master's)
  • Faculty of Business and Economics (selected departments only)
  • Faculty of Information Technology
  • Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Faculty of Science (Biological Sciences only)

The remaining faculties will commence the Monash PhD in 2015.

Research integrity

All 2013 PhD and research master’s degree candidates need to complete the Research Integrity Unit. To access this on-line unit, you need to be enrolled in RST0005 Responsible Research, which should have happened when you enrolled in your PhD or research master’s at the Monash University Institute of Graduate Research. Once enrolled you can commence the unit in the Moodle platform. You will find Moodle on the My.Monash webpage under on-line systems (Monash access only).
