1.3 Master of Philosophy (MPhil)

The Master of Philosophy is a two-year full-time equivalent program. The degree is normally a 100% research program, with the thesis having a maximum word length of 50,000 words. However, a coursework component, not exceeding 33% of the program, may be undertaken in some faculties.

In the Faculty of Business and Economics candidates may also undertake the MPhil by thesis and coursework in one of two options:

  • four coursework units and a thesis of 25,000 words – offered at:
    • Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics (Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton)
    • Department of Economics (Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton, Gippsland, Peninsula)
  • one coursework unit and a thesis of 50,000 words – offered at:
    • Department of Management (Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton)
    • Department of Business Law and Taxation (Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton, Gippsland, Peninsula)
    • Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics (Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton).
