Chapter 3: Conditions of candidature

3.8 Re-enrolment

All doctoral candidates are required to re-enrol annually at the University. To assist candidates in meeting this requirement, the University sends information and instructions about online re-enrolment procedures, including the closing date for re-enrolment, to candidates via their Monash University student email accounts towards the end of each year.

Continuing candidates who do not re-enrol on time will be liable for a late re-enrolment fee. Those candidates who do not re-enrol by the end of the late re-enrolment period will be advised that their candidature has been lapsed under Section 10.1 of the Doctorate Regulations.
Candidates who wish to be re-admitted into their degree must request re-admission in writing to the Monash University Institute of Graduate Research Office and have their main supervisor and graduate coordinator or head of the department's support in writing. Candidates who are re-admitted must pay a late re-enrolment fee.

3.8.1 Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) Annual Questionnaire

All graduate research candidates are required to complete an annual questionnaire in order to re-enrol. The questionnaire provides an opportunity for a candidate to identify any issues that may be affecting the candidature as well as fulfilling regulatory requirements.

The questionnaire is completed and submitted by the candidate online. Where the responses of the candidate identify problems with candidature or any cause for concern, these will be followed up by the appropriate members of staff.
