The introduction
Your introduction establishes what you are going to do in your essay, and establishes its theme. After reading the introduction, the reader will have a clear sense of what your essay is about and what you are going to do in it, and will be able to link the sections and discussion of the essay back to this central theme.
This section of the tutorial will help you understand the function of the introduction as well as laying out how to state your case.
