When and how to note

Just as it is useful to think of different stages of reading, it is useful to think of different stages of notetaking. These stages can be linked to first and subsequent readings of a text.

The suggested notetaking approach in this section should help you to take relevant and focused notes that reflect your purpose for reading. The approach can be adapted to suit particular texts and purposes.
