Practical matters

  • Collect notes in loose-leaf folders or an A4 spiral exercise book with separators for different subjects.
  • Head notes clearly with the date, lecturer's name, topic, and number in lecture series. Number and identify subsequent pages.
  • Use a pen not a pencil.
  • Use capital letters, underlining, highlighting, boxes, asterisks, indenting from the margin, to differentiate major and minor points.
  • Space out your notes so that they can be easily read and assimilated. Leave enough space for follow-up points with fellow students, teachers, and text books.
