Shaper

Shapers tend to thrive under pressure and need deadlines to achieve or complete a task. You can always be relied on for the 'all nighter'! But this could stress your team colleagues no end! So the secret is to set pseudo early timelines before due dates to allow work to be completed. Remember that you may thrive on pressure and challenges but your team members may not.

Implementer

Implementers tend to thrive on converting ideas into action. Your team members will love what you have to contribute. You are like the wheels on cars! A good strategy is to list your actions, and you work well being delegated action tasks by the project manager with timelines. You tend to be focused on your task and area. Occasionally it may be good to stretch your comfort zones and try out a new idea, if you get stuck in old habits.

Completer

Completers tend to deliver the goods on time and are meticulous in their attention to detail. Allow yourself realistic time to deliver the goods and complete the tasks required. Don't feel that you have to take on all responsibility though. You may want to delegate proof-reading tasks for a team project to another team member if possible.

Co-ordinator

Co-ordinators thrive on leading, co-ordinating and delegating. All teams need a project co-ordinator or manager. Co-ordinators have the ability to clarify and set goals and need to implement decision-making processes. A co-ordinating role requires responsibility and maturity, although at times some team members may think a co-ordinator delegates too much, but never underestimate the role of an effective leader.

Team worker

Team workers excel at diplomacy and being co-operative. They listen to team members and smooth over any obstacles. They hold a very important role in keeping teams cohesive. Be sure though to have someone to debrief with if there is too much friction in your group and to develop some conflict resolutions skills.

Resource investigator

Resource investigators thrive on exploring possibilities and finding out information. They tend to be dynamic and enthusiastic. The main concern is not to lose interest after the initial rush of enthusiasm. This person excels in leading the research and exploratory side of a project.

Plant

Plants are called this because of their ability to thrive on imagination and idea generation - thus the idea of growth. They excel at solving difficult problems. They do have a tendency to get absorbed in the issue and may not always communicate fully because they are so absorbed.

Monitor evaluator

Monitor evaluators are very precise people. They think strategically and are excellent judges. They are excellent to have in teams to provide the strategic outcome ideas and also to judge and evaluate a project. They do tend to be very focused on tasks.

Specialist

Specialists tend to have expertise in a particular area and are indispensable therefore to a team. They are dedicated, knowledgeable in their field and tend to have highly specialised skills. Their contribution may well be only in their area of expertise to a team project, and this may be an invaluable contribution.
